Zhe (Sarina) Zhang
Assistant Professor

Dr. Zhang is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her primary research area is Geographic Information Science and within it, a focus on Cyberinfrastructure, knowledge-driven spatial decision-making, spatial uncertainty modeling, human-centered Geospatial Artificial Intelligence, and social sensing. Dr. Zhang's research aims to develop scalable, sustainable, and intelligent decision support systems to advance spatial knowledge discovery in various application domains such as disaster resilience, critical infrastructure protection, agricultural risk management, and public health surveillance.
Dr. Zhang currently serves as the Vice Chair for Cyberinfrastructure specialty group in American Association of Geographers. She leads the CyberGIS & Decision Support Systems Research Initiative in the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS). She also serves as an associate editor and a guest editor for Computational Urban Science and Transactions in GIS journal. She has published peer-reviewed articles in several leading GIScience journals such as the International Journal of Geographic Information Sciences, International Journal of Digital Earth, Cartography and Geographic Information Science, International Journal of Critical Infrastructure Protection, and PlosOne journal. Her previous projects have been supported by several agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Transportation(U.S. DOT), National Geographic Society, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) .
